Home Based Respite Services These services are usually based in the child’s own home and are available for a minimum of two hours. We also have residential care providers available to stay in the child’s home for longer periods to enable parents and guardians to have longer breaks, in some cases, for several weeks. There is also an emergency service for unexpected situations. Our carers have backgrounds in teaching and health care related professions, nursing and childcare. All will have studied developmental psychology and be experienced in working with children with special needs. They are police checked and all references and professional qualifications are verified. Services are available to private clients and local authorities. There is no difference in the quality of care provided. Staff working on local authority bookings are employed directly by Special People unlike our private respite service where responsibility for payment lies with the client. We match carers to the individual child’s specific needs as appropriately as possible. Providing the client is happy with our choice we will always try to send the same person each time to establish consistency. The carer will have details of the child’s requirements from us. We update details at each booking and there is a 24 hour contact number for all carers. A care report is available after each session completed, with aims and objectives discussed for regular bookings. We will assess your needs from the information that you supply to us and place a suitable person with you to work with your child in whatever capacity you require - be it as a nanny, occasional respite support, baby-sitter, learning support assistant or ABA therapist.
